East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices - EACH
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices
Parma Group’s commitment to a programme of charity giving generally focuses on organisations in our local area and one these is the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) with three locations in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
This charity is dedicated to the care of babies, children and young people with life-threatening conditions and includes sympathetic end-of-life care where needed, as well as ongoing physical, social and emotional support. Experienced, trained nursing staff provide expert care in families’ own homes as well as at the hospice according to the need. This selfless level of care includes counselling and support for the families of children that are unwell.
This month, some Parma personnel were invited by the EACH fund-raising team to a cheque presentation at the Ipswich hospice. Whereas it was not possible to tour the buildings due to a young person in a critical condition, it was humbling but also heart-warming to observe and discover how much loving care is extended to little ones and young people in need and suffering.
Anna and Erin explained how the Charity currently considers for around 500 children plus their families. Around 85% of the funding for this extensive support system must be raised through voluntary donations which amounts to around £17.8m annually and continues to climb as needs escalate. This includes kind donations from businesses and companies as well as nett income from a number of high street charity shops. For every day, funds of £30,000 need to be raised for the combined care costs of the three hospices and a great team of volunteers are involved in making this happen.
More information can be found on the Charity’s website www.each.org.uk . A tremendous resource reflecting the valued and compassionate activity of this organisation. In its own words: ‘We extend a lifeline to families, providing essential care and comfort where it's needed most.’
